BEAUTY REVIEW: Estee Lauder Doublewear Foundation

If you're anything like me you will be a little reluctant to part with your pennies if you haven't tried something out first. However I find more and more often that getting anyone who works on a beauty counter to give you a sample or in fact just the time of day is a bit like getting blood out of a stone.

Anyway I have been trying to find a solid foundation for the last few months now, and ideally one that doesn't break the bank, but after about 5 or 6 different foundations I have actually reverted back to one I have used before, some time ago - Estee Lauder Doublewear foundation.

I visited the Estee Lauder counter in my local Boots, just after I had my Wow Brow treatment at Benefit (read about that here) as I had heard they had changed the formula to their infamous Doublewear.

I have to say that the girl who helped me was really nice. She used one of those nifty face scanner gadgets to find the perfect shade for me and then tried it out on my face but also gave me a pretty big sample to go away and try at home. The sample actually lasted me a week but I was back to buy before that!

I went to Debenhams to purchase my foundation as they were offering a free gift* when you purchased any 2 Estee Lauder products - one to be skincare or foundation, and to be honest I was in need of a new make up bag and the free products looked pretty exciting!

So onto the actual foundation. Obviously using the shade finder tool means that they allocated me the perfect shade in the first place which I think is one of the hardest parts about finding a good foundation.

Most foundations have either pink or yellow undertones, and if one foundation brand uses one over the other you might never find a perfect match even if you tried all of them.

Estee Lauder has a mixture of both warm and cool tones, and a total of 50 shades to choose from making it easier to find a perfect match! (Insert humorous 50 Shades of Grey quote here )

The formula is very liquid as opposed to a mousse or pump foundation which I often find too thick and claggy. Some of these types of foundations make it quite obvious you have foundation on, and not in a good way. Doublewear is particularly thin in terms of viscosity and this makes it easier to blend and apply across the face.

I have combination skin. I get an oily T-zone and sometimes cheeks, but I can get dry towards the edge of my face. The Doublewear doesn't seem fazed by any of this. It hasn't struggled to stay in place where I am oily and it definitely hasn't dried any of my skin out.

It sits evenly across my entire face and covers any spots that have popped up with ease. I haven't been using concealer since I bought it and I can honestly say I haven't felt this confident about my face in a long time - working in a customer facing role, this is a big deal!

I would class Doublewear as a full coverage, semi matt foundation. I say semi matt because my skin still looks healthy and fresh when I am wearing it, rather than dry or powdery. It covers blemishes and spots but isn't heavy or uncomfortable to wear.

At £32.50 Doublewear definitely isn't the cheapest foundation on the market, but it isn't the most expensive either, and in terms of value, the finish it gives my skin is every penny worth it. I also don't have to reapply throughout the day as I would have done previously at least once, if not twice with cheaper foundations so it is probably going to last me twice as long as others.

I honestly can't remember when and why I stopped using Doublewear in the first place, but I can guarantee this is one I will be sticking with now. I really recommend at least giving it a try and popping to your local counter for a shade match and sample.

I hope you have found this useful... what's your cant live without foundation? Let me know in the comments. You may find this article interesting from who also agree with my choice. They try numerous products so you don't have to, and as they are based in the US they feature a number of products I had never even come across before, but are definitely worth the shipping costs!
